My Horse My Hero
Sean Wilkins & Herbie entry 1
My hero is my H Herbie.i brought Herbie 3 years ago when he was rising 4 ,he had only been backed two weeks but I wanted something I could work with to turn into a family pony. we had a rocky start ,Herbie was an unsettled ,opinionated and grumpy young boy. I did have 2nd thoughts whether I would be the right person for him ,but with perseverance and lots of hard work we started getting somewhere. Lots of people had opinions on how grumpy he was but I didn't give in. I got such a strong bond with him and we have achieved so much in just few years .he excelled at showing ,was bomb proof hacking and know found dressage to be fun lol .I took him on holiday last year and it was amazing he truly is my best friend .my kids are now competing on him ,and my daughter had a prom shoot on him as her prom was cancelled due to lockown .he has kept me and my daughters sane and going through some difficult times, he is so cheeky and makes us laugh everyday .he isn't everyone's cup of tea ,as he picks and chooses who he likes and who he doesn't but he is so clever and I wouldn't change him for the world. I believe in fate and that he it was meant to be that Herbie was part of the Wilkins family ..the memories we make with him will be treasured forever xxxx

“Our eyes met and it was instant love at first sight “

That was nearly 2 years ago ..I wasn’t looking for another horse and certainly not a cob lol ..I was on a livery yard and this pony just caught my eye and I knew he was to be mine ..he looked scruffy unloved ...and totally adorable 🥰 so I said I like him and they just well said.. why on earth did I want that( little did they know the potential and amazing ness of this pony age 22) they then gave him to me I put him in with my mare and instant love there too that’s how it started little did I know this pony would turn my life around and be my ultimate soulmate ..I took to the clippers and within a few weeks our first show ..I loved how we went in blind he trusted me then ..after falling in the show ring (embarrassed fell over my own feet ) lol I knew he was awesome ..I’ve never laughed and won so much with him ..I mean dancing with a cob at dressage and winning as well at championships ..
I’ve achieved life long dreams and created the ultimate memories ..he’s cheeky he’s old but he is one in a million we fit together like one !! My Horse, My Hero - Entry 5
Riley Boyes & Stella
Stella came into my life two years ago, at a time when we desperately needed each other – her owner had just bought her but didn’t have time for her, and I was not in a good place after trying to give up horses for financial reasons. We are unsure of her history, but it is clear that she changed hands many times before ending up here and that not all of her experiences were positive. When we first started out she was very opinionated and trusted noone but herself. While it has taken a long time to build that trust, I could not ask for a better partner than the horse she is now. Working together she has taught me how to be confident and sure of myself, and I have helped her to build relationships (both human and equine) and let down her guard. On December 13th we had an unfortunate accident that has left both of us sidelined for the time being, but I know we can come back stronger and we are using the time off to appreciate each other more than ever. She is truly a once in a lifetime unicorn!
My Horse My Hero Entry 6
Nicole Jones & Beauty

In 2018 I had many losses in such a short time. I lost two of my beloved dogs Harley and Jake within 2 months of each other. My mom and I decided to send them to heaven so they can run free at Rainbow bridge. The end of July my biggest loss of my life happened. My dad passed away after a long battle with cancer. I didn’t feel happiness or joy. I went into a deep depression over the next few months over all the loss. After struggling with depression, the following year my family brought a new horse home in July on the same day as my dad’s birthday. I knew it was a sign. Beauty has been a companion and hero to me, she helped me cope with my depression and helped me heal. I love that it’s always an adventure with her no matter what we do. Because of her I learned to ride and started to live life. She’s so patient with me and is there when I need her. She’s truly one of the best horses and I couldn’t imagine life without my hero. She saved me from the darkness.

My Horse My Hero Entry 7
Jade Wheeler O'Donnell & Jimmy
Introducing jimmy and our story goes my horse my hero...

When I was a little girl this beautiful 3year old arrived on the farm I was riding at, I took one look at him and fell in love..he was broken and I was so lucky I got to ride him most weekends. My family moved away for a business opportunity and I begged my family to buy him but it wasn’t possible so I said goodbye and moved away...I was lucky that I was able to visit a couple of times over the next few years. In 2014 after moving back me and a friend decided we should go for a ride so I went to the farm and booked us in, one of my first questions was “do you still have jimmy” the answer I got was “yes, do you want him” I was beside myself with excitement and said yes!!
I made arrangements and got him home, after being away from horses for around 13 years I had no idea what I was doing but Jimmy retaught me everything I know today, I loved being back in the horsey world so much that I started to look at rescuing a pony to keep him company, by 2017 I was up to 9 cobs!
Now aged 23 and having had him for almost 7 years jimmy has changed my life, he opened my eyes and made me find myself again, we have helped the other ponies have a good life, we have raised nearly £300 for medical detection dogs, my Nan was diagnosed with breast cancer and I wanted to do something so I took my partner in crime to canter for a cure for my 30th birthday, my first ever sponsored ride, he gave me the confidence to go for it, we then got the sponsored ride bug, he made my wedding the most perfect day as he took me to the church to marry my (2nd..don’t tell hubby) best friend and then to our reception, jimmy supported me through good and bad times, jan 2020 I suffered a miscarriage and lost our twins and all the way through jimmy was there for me he kept me strong and going! July 2020 we were finally pregnant again and as jimmy had been there through everything it was only right he was the one to announce to the world our new arrival!
He’s seen me through the good the bad and the ugly, given me strength and courage to carry on through the toughest of times, he really is my hero, my best friend and the love of my life!

My Horse My Hero Entry 8
Dawn Gilchrest-Webb & Misty's Thunderstorm
In 2019 I was diagnosed with Cancer and started on chemo and radiation treatment. My world felt like it was ending. During my lowest time my friends asked if I was interested in getting a horse. At my age I never actually thought of it but then I realized it was a dream I held close in my heart. I thought long and hard – what would happen to the horse when I die was my biggest fear. My friends promised they will always be there for both of us. Together we found this horse whom I named Misty’s Thunderstorm after my childhood love – Misty of Chincoteague. His barn name was to become Stormy – a total opposite of his personality. I fell in love with him at first sight. I cannot ride due to medical side effects and need a cane to walk but Stormy walks side by side slowly when I need him. He has taught me it is OK to open my heart and live no matter what is going to happen in the future. He is my inspiration and gives pure love that I never knew I needed until I met him.
